Your solidarity brings warmth: Campaign against the cold wave in the highlands

The severe cold wave affecting the high-Andean regions of our country is causing harm to the lives, health, education, agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure of its inhabitants. The most vulnerable populations-children and the elderly-are especially affected, as poverty prevents them from purchasing warm clothing. To date, media reports indicate an alarming increase in childhood pneumonia cases, with at least four deaths reported.

The situation has exceeded the response capacity of the Regional Governments of Apurímac, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Junín, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno, and Tacna. Therefore, through Supreme Decrees No. 060-2018-PCM and No. 062-2018-PCM, dated June 12 and 21, 2018, the Peruvian Government has declared a State of Emergency due to imminent danger from frost and snowfall in 64 districts across 28 provinces.

Fundación Wiese launches national aid campaign with warmth kits

In response to this emergency, Fundación Wiese has launched a solidarity initiative to activate a nationwide humanitarian aid campaign focused on providing warmth to the most vulnerable. The campaign aims to deliver warmth kits to children aged 0 to 12 and adults over 60 in the affected regions. Each kit is valued at S/ 50 and includes a sweater, a hat, a scarf, and a pair of wool gloves.

The first delivery, co-financed by Fundación Wiese and ADRA Perú, consists of 1,000 kits: 800 for children and 200 for the elderly. These will be distributed in the high-Andean areas on the border between Tacna and Puno, one of the most remote, vulnerable, and underserved regions in the country.

How can you help? Donate and bring warmth to those most in need

With the funds raised, Fundación Wiese will distribute the kits in coordination with the Regional Emergency Operations Centers (COER). All deliveries will be carried out by ADRA volunteers and supervised by the Foundation. Upon completion, a final report will be issued to donors, detailing the districts served, the number of beneficiaries, and the use of funds.

Additionally, efforts will be made to purchase the kits within the affected regions to support the local economy and generate temporary employment in the intervention areas.
