Wiese Foundation Makes Major Donation for Oxygen Plant Implementation
The city of Cañete, located in the Lima region, now has its own medical oxygen plant—bringing joy and relief to residents of the area and of Yauyos, as they now have easier and more affordable access to the oxygen needed to treat patients affected by COVID-19.

The first generator was installed in May, while the second one—funded in part by the Wiese Foundation in collaboration with Cañete’s civil society, journalists, and institutions—was delivered in early June.

The donation made by the Wiese Foundation covered approximately 60% of the cost of the second generator. In the words of Monsignor Ricardo:
"The participation of the Wiese Foundation was the catalyst that allowed us to move the project forward. Thanks to their contribution, we reached a critical turning point. Their support inspired others to join in, and we were able to raise the full amount we needed."

For Ingrid Claudet, General Manager of the Wiese Foundation, there were three main reasons that motivated the organization to participate in this initiative:

  1. The opportunity to provide help in response to a real and urgent need affecting the most vulnerable.
  2. The request from Monsignor Ricardo, a respected figure known for his longstanding humanitarian work and deep understanding of the region.
  3. The Foundation’s core mission to support initiatives where the goodwill of the private sector, non-profits, the local community, authorities, and the Catholic Church can come together to make a positive impact.

During the blessing of the oxygen plant, Claudet also emphasized the crucial role of the state in encouraging these kinds of projects:
"I believe the role of the government is key in convening and recognizing the value, effectiveness, and efficiency that the private sector can offer in helping address emergencies," she stated.

The oxygen plant in Cañete is now fully operational, producing up to 96 oxygen cylinders per day thanks to its two generators, each capable of producing 20 cubic meters per hour. Even in the post-pandemic period, this plant will remain a valuable resource for the community by supplying medical oxygen to the nearest hospital, continuing to serve the people of Cañete and Yauyos.
