Governance Workshop: Social entrepreneurs refine values and objectives

The workshop was held during the afternoon of September 4, at the headquarters of the Wiese Foundation, as part of the training scheduled for the 8 finalist social endeavors that are currently in the Due Diligence stage of the Entrepreneurial Fund. One of the objectives of the mentioned stage is the development of managerial skills in the teams of the finalist companies; in particular those competences that are acquired through good corporate governance practices, in view of the objectives of commercial growth and sustainability.

Governance: Values, objectives and transparency

The Governance Workshop highlighted the importance of aligning the course of each endeavor to previously defined values and objectives, and then operate in a consistent manner. In that line, it was concluded that it is essential to:

  • Agree on the values that will guide the company’s management decisions.
  • Define its strategic objectives.
  • Implement the most efficient way of addressing day-to-day operational issues.

Pitch presentation of the finalist endeavors

The dynamics of the workshop allowed each social endeavor selected for the Due Diligence stage of the Entrepreneurial Fund to pitch to present its business to the directors, corporate managers and general managers of the companies that are part of the Wiese Group. Each social endeavor presented:

  • The business model of the company.
  • The social problem it addresses.
  • The evolution of the organization.
  • Its measurable impact on economic, ecological and social KPIs.

Social endeavors also had the opportunity to expand their network of contacts and put into practice the knowledge acquired over the 4 months elapsed since the start of the Due Diligence stage of the Entrepreneurial Fund, in which they currently participate. 

An interactive session

In the final part of the Governance Workshop, some directors and managers of the Wiese Group were invited by the Entrepreneurial Fund team to form a panel, so that they could share their experiences and recommendations, as well as directly answer the queries made by the attending social entrepreneurs, in relation to the issue of good corporate governance practices.

For example, from the board of the Wiese Group the importance of “surrounding yourself with uncomfortable people” to give a more plural vision to the organization was highlighted, and thus achieve to align the interests of the company with those of its stakeholders (public of interest) in an efficient and fair manner.

This activity and the entire Wiese Foundation Entrepreneurial program are framed in their vision of helping Peru of the future be forged by better citizens.
