COVID-19 has been with us for more than a year and in this time, it has taken the lives of many persons, while others still continue to fight to defeat the disease in hospital beds in Lima and in the provinces. The scarcity of ICU beds and mechanical ventilators has put in a difficult situation the medical personnel, who do not have sufficient resources to save all those who carry the virus. In this context, Wiese Foundation has sought to contribute to the work of physicians and healthcare technical personnel with the donation of devices known as Wayrachis.
What is a Wayrachi?
The Wayrachi is a device that helps to supply medicinal oxygen at a high flow. In contrast with the cannula, which only allows to administer 4 liters or 5 liters per minute, or the chamber, which allows to administer up to 15 liters, the Wayrachi allows the specialists to administer up to 100 liters of medicinal oxygen per minute.
This device can be used in order to prevent the use of a mechanical ventilator and, therefore, to avoid for the patient who uses the Wayrachi the need to be admitted into the intensive care area.
Advantages of the use of the Wayrachi:
- It does not require electrical technology.
- It is fed by embedded oxygen.
- It is connected to masks that adhere to the patient’s face.
- It is non-invasive.
Wiese Foundation delivered 100 Wayrachi equipments
As part of the Humanitarian Aid program of Wiese Foundation, in the year 2021 we donated 100 Wayrachi devices to ESSALUD.
Donation of FIO2 equipments
Furthermore, Wiese Foundation has arranged the donation of 13 oxygen calibrators in order to facilitate and control the use of the Wayrachis donated to EsSalud.
To date, we have been able to deliver 5 FIO1 equipments, which, together with the Wayrachi, seek to make the difference between life and death for many patients. The first of these equipments was received by Dr. Julio Roldán, from the Emergency Department at Rebagliati Hospital, who thanked the donation from Wiese Foundation. Also, Dr. Jorge Amorós, Manager of Guillermo Almenara Hospital, commented that thanks to the FIO2 equipment they will be able to better manage the flow of oxygen received by their patients through the Wayrachis.
Finally, among the first three establishments where we delivered the FIO2, there was Villa Mongrut; the device was received by Dr. Richard Requena, Director of this medical establishment, who thanked Wiese Foundation for the donation that will allow to calibrate the Wayrachi equipments that they have there.
