Wiese Foundation delivers innovating virtual reality kits to relieve stress among children and adolescents during oncological treatments

  • The foundation delivered equipment worth more than S/. 66,000

Wiese Foundation made an important donation of virtual reality kits for digital sedation to the Pediatric Oncology Ward of Guillermo Almenara hospital of EsSalud (Social Health Security), in the Lima region, during a ceremony that was attended by the Foundation’s general manager, Ingrid Claudet, the executive president of EsSalud, Dr. Mario Carhuapoma Yance, and the CEO of FeelsGood, Luis Rodríguez, who is the creator of these devices.

During the ceremony, the executive president of EsSalud thanked Wiese Foundation for the delivery of this type of technology, so important and innovative for the work that will be conducted at Guillermo Almenara Hospital of EsSalud.

For her part, the representative from Wiese Foundation indicated that this way “our institution contributes to the FeelsGood cause”, and that, in addition to this first donation, we will soon make another donation at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases.

We received the request from Guillermo Almenara hospital, asking for this type of equipment because they found them to be valuable, above all for improving the quality of life for the girls, boys and adolescents who are undergoing complex oncological treatments“, added Ingrid Claudet.

Moreover, during the ceremony, the CEO of FeelsGood showed his gratitude for the trust and good reception of his technology in hospitals, not only in Lima, but in several regions of Peru and, also, other countries in the world.

This equipment is currently used in venipuncture procedures on pediatric patients at hospital and clinics in Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil and, recently, in Chile. To date, we have conducted more than 10002C000 painless procedures.  This shows the efficiency and the benefit given to the patient by this product”, pointed out Luis Rodríguez.

Wiese Foundation’s role in alliance with health

Wiese Foundation invested almost S/. 66,400 in the purchase of virtual reality equipment, a donation whose objective aligns with the main purpose of the organization, which is to strive so that better citizens may forge the Peru of the future.

Furthermore, since March of 2021, Wiese Foundation has invested more than USD 500,000 in various actions oriented to contributing to addressing the sanitary crisis and its grave consequences. Among these actions, there is the acquisition and timely delivery of medical equipment and PPEs for the EsSalud and Minsa (Ministry of health) networks, addressing specifically the needs of the medical personnel in various regions of the country; as well as the direct execution of screening campaigns and care of non-complex cases of Covid-19 in vulnerable populations. We are currently readying new medical campaigns in the province of Ascope, in the region of La Libertad.

About the equipment

The visors donated by Wiese Foundation are virtual reality devices whose software, developed in Peru, allows to reduce the feeling of pain during the treatment of children with cancer and of minors who must undergo invasive medical procedures.

This visor is like a non-invasive anesthetic because it generates a distractor that transports the children into a digital reality while the specialists carry out the oncological treatments on the minors”, indicated the executive president of EsSalud, Dr. Mario Carhuapoma Yance, regarding the donation.

It is important to point out that this technology was developed by FeelsGood, a startup company focused on the healthcare sector that uses VR technology, augmented reality and artificial intelligence for its technological developments. The equipments in question are important because they perform an important function: transporting the oncological pediatric patient through psychology, imagination, music and chromotherapy techniques, into a more favorable and friendly virtual reality, thus diminishing, inasmuch as possible, the feeling of pain during their treatments. Its creator, Luis Rodríguez, immersed himself into this digital breakthrough from an intimate and personal experience. “It happened in this very hospital. My grandmother suffered a cerebrovascular accident and, due to that, she lost mobility in part of her body.  I had knowledge of technology and started to research how technology could help her. I found scientific evidence regarding the use of virtual reality in the reduction of pain and I applied those techniques during her rehabilitation”, stated the CEO of FeelsGood.
