- The equipments are employed by medical personnel in the difficult task of recuperating persons with respiratory insufficiency due to the new coronavirus.
Last Thursday March 11 of 2021, the Social Health Security (EsSalud) received from Wiese Foundation a new donation of 20 Wayrachi high-flow oxygen devices that will be destined for the main hospitals of the country that provide care to the patients who present respiratory difficulty due to COVID-19.
What are Wayrachis?
Wayrachis are oxygen flow regulators that provide the necessary amount
of oxygen in a period of five days and allow to provide an alternative and
non-invasive treatment to patients with an oxygen saturation below 90%.
The spokesperson from EsSalud, Hernán Ramos, said that the Wayrachi has become
an important tool for the medical personnel in the titanic task of recuperating
the persons who present respiratory insufficiency, and it prevents them from
needing to go to the ICU.
“These devices com with a high-flow cannula and a system for the continuous
positive pressure of the airways, which help to improve the prognosis of
patients who suffer from the dreaded disease and spare them the need to be
intubated”, stated Ramos.
For her part, Ingrid Claudet, General Manager of Wiese Foundation, said that, with this delivery, it is a total of 80 Wayrachi devices that her institution has donated to EsSalud throughout the pandemic and which have allowed to save the lives of hundreds of persons affected by the new coronavirus.
To date, 580 Wayrachi devices have been distributed at ESSALUD, MINSA, the Police Hospital and the Naval Hospital, as stated by Fernando Sato, one of the engineers who manufacture the device in Peru. As is known, these devices were developed by Mercedes Benz and UCL-Ventura University last year and which, due to the context, had their patents placed at the free disposal of any person who wishes to replicate them.
