The Wiese Foundation renews the soup kitchen that it has supported for more than 15 years and will implement a comprehensive health and oncological campaign for its beneficiaries in Pamplona Baja

  • The intervention includes the donation of equipment (industrial kitchen, water filter, set of utensils) for the improvement of the services provided by the San José Marello soup kitchen.
  • As well as nutritional advice sessions to strengthen the skills of people who prepare food and a health campaign that will benefit 130 people.

Objective

Within the framework of its Humanitarian Aid Program, the Wiese Foundation made an important donation to the San José Marello soup kitchen, located in the San Juan de Miraflores district of Lima, with the aim of improving the conditions in which the lunch service is provided and promoting the well-being of its beneficiaries and workers. The San José Marello soup kitchen is supported almost entirely by the annual donation that the Wiese Foundation has given to the María Misionera parish of Pamplona Alta, for more than 15 years; and offers lunch to 92 highly vulnerable people due to their level of poverty, age and health conditions.

What is the aid all about?

This intervention has been designed by  the Wiese Foundation, with the participation of two of its strategic allies, Adra Perú and the League Against Cancer and had  two parts: (1) the complete equipment of the kitchen, that includes, among other things, the renovation of the industrial kitchen, the installation of a water filtration system and a complete set of utensils; additionally, nutritional advice will be provided to the ladies responsible for preparing the food and (2) a Comprehensive Health Care Campaign for the soup kitchen users and parish workers.

About the re-equipment of the soup kitchen and the nutritional advice

By improving the nutritional quality of the food prepared in the soup kitchen, the good health of its beneficiaries is promoted, especially that of children and the elderly. Moreover, water filtration helps reduce the presence of bacteria and other contaminants that may exist in the supply. That way, the parish will not have to use gas daily to boil the water that it requires to prepare the light juice that it offers with its menu.

Nutritional advice is also an important aspect of this donation. The soup kitchen staff has been receiving training and personalized advice from qualified nutritionists to improve food preparation and create healthy and varied menus.

About the comprehensive and oncological health campaign

The Comprehensive Health Care Campaign for the users and workers of the soup kitchen is one of the other initiatives that will be carried out. Given that many of the people who come to the soup kitchen have limitations for medical care, the aforementioned campaign is crucial to provide them with access to preventive and curative health services, aside from promoting healthy lifestyles and adequate nutrition, in order to contribute to the prevention of diseases.

The medical specialties offered by the health campaign are:

  • General Medicine
  • Geriatrics
  • Dentistry
  • Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics
  • Pharmacy

Additionally, this comprehensive health campaign also contemplates screening for up to 5 types of cancer, thanks  to the mobile unit for the early detection of cancer that the Wiese Foundation donated to the aforementioned institution last year within the framework of its inter-institutional alliance. The following exams and clinical tests will be performed free of charge:

  • Pap smear test
  • VIA test (Visual inspection with acetic acid)
  • Clinical breast exam
  • Clinical examination of lymph nodes
  • Clinical thyroid exam

Thanks to this valuable initiative, quality and specialized medical care is promoted for the prevention of skin, uterine cervix, breast, lymph node and thyroid cancer. Aside from raising awareness and sensitizing people about risk factors, warning signs, symptoms and recommendations to follow for early prevention and the adequate treatment of this disease.

The Wiese Foundation keeps working for the benefit of the most vulnerable

In summary, this intervention is a great example of how collaboration among organizations can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

At  the Wiese Foundation, we thank our strategic allies for their continued support and commitment to the community, together we can continue to make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
