Fundación Wiese y CyArk

The Wiese Foundation and CyArk, an alliance that benefits the El Brujo Archaeological Program

Due to the impacts of the pandemic in Peru, in-person visits to archaeological sites have been severely affected, and there is a significant need to generate educational and attractive content that allows these cultural spaces to improve the reach and impact of their communications, through their digital platforms, with their diverse audiences in Peru and around the world.

The “Cultural Exchange and Technology Transfer at the El Brujo Archaeological Complex” project was designed by CyArk, in alliance with the Wiese Foundation, and financed by the United States Embassy in Peru, with the purpose of offering virtual access to the site and increasing awareness of the site’s existence among international audiences, in preparation for when touristic activity resumes.

Consequently, CyArk provided the Wiese Foundation’s team, under the charge of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, with STEAM field training workshops on 3D documentation and guided them in the production of powerful digital resources that will be used to promote the site, with the idea that after this experience, these professionals will then share what they learned with other interested institutions and professionals in the country.

“With the data collected we have produced a web experience online to share the El Brujo Archaeological Complex with audiences from the United States and Peru in a dynamic and interactive way”, indicated Kacey Hadick, director of Conservation and Management Programs, to the Wiese Foundation.

Goals accomplished and what comes next

The goal of the project was to create an educational resource that would be attractive and accessible for diverse audiences, through the exchange of knowledge between the Wiese Foundation and CyArk teams. With respect to this, three virtual, interactive tours with 3D views were developed, which will be used starting now to promoted visits to the site. We invite you to enjoy the new virtual tours of El Brujo.

El Brujo Archaeological Program

Thanks to this project, five professionals from the Wiese Foundation who participated in the field workshops conducted by the CyArk staff were trained in new methods to digitally document and share the unique cultural heritage of the El Brujo Archaeological Complex. To do so, the team received a kit with all the necessary equipment.

Furthermore, the virtual training strengthened the technical capabilities within the Foundation and resulted in the production of attractive educational content and powerful visuals that can be used to promote the archaeological site.

Starting now, the Wiese Foundation is planning its strategies for communications and events through which it will share, with its diverse audiences, the 3D resources that were created, as well as the knowledge acquired thanks to this valuable project, for which it is profoundly grateful.

The Wiese Foundation and CyArk

CyArk is a non-profit organization, founded in 2003, to digitally record, archive, and share the cultural heritage of archaeological sites, at a global level, and to ensure that these spaces continue to astound and inspire curiosity for decades to come.

The Wiese Foundation promotes the individual and collective good, through scientific research, culture, and education. In alliance with the Ministry of Culture, for more than three decades, it has been responsible for the scientific research, preservation, and socialization of knowledge recovered from the El Brujo Archaeological Complex in Ascope, in the region of La Libertad.
